Project Hosting
From LDSOSS
There are two primary community resources for hosting software development projects. Both provide similar resources: a CVS repository, mailing lists, bug tracking facilities, and project releases and downloads.
Savannah
Savannah was developped as a GNU project after SourceForge stopped releasing the source code for the project development website. It was branched from the last free release of the SourceForge code. Savannah has since undergone significant changes and enhancements, and is, of course, freely available for all wishing to run their own project hosting website.
SourceForge
SourceForge developed a vast infrastructure for hosting Free Software projects. Initial implementations of their system were made available to the community under an Open Source licence, but they have since changed their policy and they no longer share their software with the community. Thus the existence of Savannah.
GForge
GForge does not actually host projects, like Savannah and SourceForge do. Rather GForge is another branch of the last free SourceForge release, with various enhancements and modifications. It is also freely available for all wishing to run their own project hosting website.
